PACC Advocacy Urgent Alert!

Congressional leaders released a budget draft that calls for at least $1.5 trillion in spending cuts, with Medicaid likely facing some of the deepest cuts. If Congress is successful in passing its budget resolution, it would direct further legislation to make these drastic cuts, which could:

  • Shift Medicaid costs to states, forcing them to cut provider rates or reduce essential services.
  • Threaten home and community-based services (HCBS), leading to longer waitlists and higher rates of institutionalization.
  • Put individuals with I/DD at risk of losing critical supports and life changing care that allows them to live independently, such as:
    • Life-saving surgery for an infant with Down syndrome facing a critical heart condition.
    • A customized power wheelchair that gives an adult with a disability the freedom to work and live independently.
    • Home care support for someone who relies on a ventilator, so they can live at home instead of being forced into a hospital.

Cuts are being made to create room for $4.5 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.  Congress must hear from you now! Tell your Congressional members: Reject Medicaid cuts and protect services for people with disabilities. Unless we act now, children and adults with disabilities will lose access to these services—some as soon as April.

Members of Congress rely on feedback from their constituents when making decisions on public policy. Studies show that direct outreach from constituents is the most effective way to influence legislators—your voice truly makes a difference.

It’s critical to act now and tell Congress to protect Medicaid and the services people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) rely on.
